Their farm, 56 Heart of Dixie Dairy, has been part of the Alabama agricultural landscape since 1943, when Richie’s great-uncle and grandmother first began a commercial herd. In 1964, Richie’s father joined the farm, and by 1982, Richie himself came on board full-time, continuing the family legacy.

Meet the Traylor Family of Alabama

Today, Richie, his wife Michelle, and their daughters Shelby and Sarah all play an active role in the farm’s success. Michelle and Richie recently celebrated 25 years of marriage, while Shelby and Sarah are the next generation, helping to ensure the family tradition continues.

The farm is home to a dairy herd, along with beef cattle and poultry. The Traylors raise their own heifers, grow corn silage and hay, and operate a commercial beef herd. Their daughters manage a herd of registered Red Angus cattle while providing artificial breeding services for other producers. This diversified approach reflects the family’s commitment to sustainability and resilience in agriculture.

Community involvement has always been important to the Traylors. Over the years, they’ve brought dairy and beef animals to local schools, fairs, and events, giving children and families a firsthand look at farming.

They’ve also partnered with local businesses such as Boondocks BBQ & Creamery, which celebrated National Dairy Month with a “Dairy Day” featuring giveaways, a specialty cow-themed “Mooshake,” and even a live cow from 56 Heart of Dixie Dairy, to promote agriculture and connect consumers with farmers.

Showing cattle is another proud tradition for the Traylor family. For more than two decades, they’ve exhibited heifers at the National level and at local shows across Alabama.

At 56 Heart of Dixie Dairy, every generation of the Traylor family has added to the story of a farm that continues to thrive thanks to hard work, dedication, and love for agriculture. Richie and his family remain committed to producing high-quality milk and caring for their animals, while passing on their values to the next generation.
